After a successful amateur career which saw international honours at Youth and Senior level Stephen was triumphant in victory with a win in the 1983 Lytham Trophy. Sticking to his plan Stephen turned professional in 1983.
During an apprenticeship of PGA Tartan Tour Events for 4 years, Stephen eventually qualified in 1987 to play full time on the The European Tour.
1990 saw the breakthrough with two victories in the Atlantic and Dutch Opens. These victories produces international honours when Stephen represented Scotland in the 1990 Dunhill Cup at St Andrews alongside Sandy Lyle and Sam Torrance.
In 2000, Stephen played his last European Tour event and with a move into Corporate Golf this allowed him to build in various areas including coaching.
Stephen has worked with Alex for around 3 years to help his preparation for playing the European Seniors when he turns 50 in February.
What Stephen says:
“I was not looking for a personal trainer, but someone who had knowledge in the golf specific field and was willing to work over a period of time to improve my general balance, core strength and stamina. Alex and the Golf Fit principles made my decision very easy! Over the last 2 months I have seen my commitment and enjoyment level increase. During my playing years on The European Tour I realised I had to maintain a level of fitness through gym work, but I became too easily bored due to lack of proper direction. Now, with the advice and weekly supervision from Alex I am really enjoying the programme. Mentally and physically I feel better because of my commitment. Alex has fantastic knowledge on specific body parts and movement required to maximise power and balance in the golf swing. His understanding for my needs are professionally diagnosed and delivered. I have given myself a target of raising my strength and fitness over the next 3 years before heading for the Seniors Tour. After my first session I knew this was the ideal fitness formula for me“.
