Golf Fit Lothians Junior Championship

Golf Fit Lothians Junior Championship

Golf Fit are really pleased to be supporting the Lothians Junior Championships this year.

Our interaction with the Lothians Boys Team started in 2010 when we were asked by the Lothians to help their squads with their golf fitness during the off-season. We then began running additional classes with the kids getting stuck in.

In 2013, Calum Hill (Tantallon), who had been working with Golf Fit for 3 years won the title. After qualifying for the 2015 Scottish Open at Gullane Calum is back working hard on the Oregon State Men's Golf Team.

In 2014, Lewis Bain (Musselburgh), won the title. Lewis is at college in Edinburgh and plays on the SGU Order of Merit circuit. Lewis see's Coach Craig for his 1-1 sessions and joins in a Golf Fit lifting class on a Thursday evening.

In 2015, the Lothians introduced an U16 and U14's trophy. David Rudd (Longniddry) won the U16's trophy and Liam Currid (Gogarburn) won the U14's. David and Liam started Golf Fit classes when they were quite young - starting off in weekend 'Bounce' classes and progressing into Monday and Tuesday night 'Flow'. David now mixes it with the Youths on a Thursday night. Mark Napier (Turnhouse) won the U18 tournament that year. You may recognise Mark from the front page of our website. He is currently at Stirling University and playing in the Scottish Men's Order of Merit. We have been a part of Mark's team since he was 12.

We are extermely proud to be supporting the Boys Championship this year. We work really hard to have a successful company and care immensely about Junior Golf. We will offer the winner of the U18 trophy 1 years free coaching (1-1 and Group Classes).

We also have a 6-a-side promotional match against a Lothians Boys Team on Saturday, May 21st at the fantastic Renaissance Club. The Renaissance Club is also holding the 2016 Men's Lothians Championships. Former champions Lewis, Mark and David will be playing for a Golf Fit select team on the day.

Optogait is an innovative system for movement analysis, it can identify deficiencies, postural problems and asymmetries on the basis of data and videos and determine how the players’ performance is being effected.

Strength & Golf

What is Strength?

When I think back to my days studying Technology at secondary school, I can recall being provided with a very clear definition of what strength is. Strength, I was told by my teacher, “is the ability of a structure or material to withstand and resist force.”

For me this also has to be true in any sport. We often think of our bodies applying all the forces and other objects providing the ‘resistance’. However we must be able to resist any forces placed on our body (structure) and our tissue (materials), in order to be able to move against, resist or decelerate any external resistance.

So in simple terms, we must be strong so that we don’t break down and get injured when playing with external forces. That includes reactionary forces created by our own movements.
